Whether you're navigating the winding roads by car or motorcycle, the Great Smoky Mountains offer some of the most beautifully scenic driving routes in the eastern United States. With dense forests, misty mountains, and powerful waterfalls around every turn, these drives provide a true immersion into the natural splendor of the region.

Newfound Gap Road

Straddling the Tennessee-North Carolina border, the iconic Newfound Gap Road (Highway 441) climbs over 3,000 feet through the heart of the national park, peaking at an elevation of 5,046 feet. The 31-mile journey passes plenty of pullouts for short hikes to stunning overlooks like Morton Overlook and the Chimneys Picnic Area.

Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail

This steep, narrow one-way road is a favorite for motorcycle touring. The 5.5-mile loop winds past historic cabins, waterfalls like Grotto Falls, and photo-worthy spots like the Trillium Gap trailhead. Keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife that call this area home.

Foothills Parkway

For sweeping panoramic views, you can't beat the Foothills Parkway driving experience. The 33-mile section open to vehicles has dozens of overlooks showcasing the rolling Tennessee mountains and valleys below.

Cherohala Skyway

Straddling the North Carolina-Tennessee border, this 43-mile National Scenic Byway attracts riders near and far for its challenging curves and breathtaking mountain vistas. The road winds through two national forests and climbs elevations over 5,000 feet, passing waterfalls and unbeatable overlooks.
